Art for Thought

I've thought a lot about how to write this post. How to write out my thoughts in a clear and understanding way, so we'll see how this goes.

I love art, it has been something constant in my life. I always recognized Van Goghs, Monets, and of course Mona Lisa. When I took art history in high school, it struck a chord with me. I learned of so many brilliant artists. I learned that Greek statues aren't inappropriate because the Greeks and Romans didn't view the body in a bad way, they saw the body as one of Gods most beautiful creations, they idealized it. I learned the many emotions tagged along with art, the revolutions made through art, and the many changes, but also the things that always stayed the same. Art is always so intriguing.

Some of my favorite pieces of art are the simple in look but delicate and intricate in detail. They simply tell a story, but I also love the unique and different. It's complicated.

Man In a Red Turban by Jan Van Eyck
Man in A Red Turban
This is one of my many favorite paintings. So simplistic. I love that the red is as vivid as ever after about 582 years (yes I counted, or more like used a calculator). I can't quite put into words why I love this painting, but alas I do.

Portrait of Baldassare Castiglione by Raphael

Again I will say that I love simplistic paintings, it's my one weakness. I just get this idea that this man was a kind and gentle old man, someone friendly. Raphael has the talent to do a portrait justice, as do many artists of his time.

La Carmencita by John Singer Sargent
La Carmencita
John Singer Sargent is I believe my favorite artist. I love when there is one vivid pop of color that is the statement piece of the painting, refer back to man in a red turban. This painting is brilliant, as are many of his paintings, I mean really. Also, I really want this dress, a girl can dream.

VJ Day in Times Square by Alfred Eisenstaedt
VJ Day in Times Square
My all time favorite photograph. I've always loved it simply for the romantic aspect, just so adorable, even if they didn't actually know each other. A glimpse in time, a timeless moment, whatever you wanna call it.

Close by Christophe Louis Quibe
Close
I love the two faces. The man's face looks like the face of Tarzan, so obviously his face is on point. I love this piece and have finally been able to find who created it, it's a good day.

So many beautiful pieces of art, so little time. I'll be saving some good ones for another rainy day.

Love ya like crazy,
Mercedes
