Catching Up

I soon realized that I have read about 7 books, but not updated my blog or told you what I thought of them. Today will now be dedicated to just that!

First off. Isms: Understanding Modern Art. This book catches the reader up on, you guessed it, Modern Art. From what I remember it gives you a time period, then the style, the meaning of that style, why it is significant, and finally the artists who used that style. Most likely, artists are put in multiple style categories. This book was great for those who want to learn up on modern art, but not buy or lug around a huge pricy art book like the one I own. So read it, it'll do you good.

Decorate: 1,000 Ideas for Every Room in Your Home. Loved this book, because interior design! Also, pictures of rooms that make me jealous of the home owners, so maybe if you don't want to be jealous, don't read it?

Un-Decorate: The No-Rules Approach to Interior Design. Again, design. Again loved it, but slightly more so than the decorate book, for reasons unknown.

The Things That Matter. This was an interesting read. Because while it is about interior design, it also talks about Nate's history and some really traumatizing events that happened. So kinda depressing, but once he starts talking about design, I loved it, plus the people's homes he chooses to showcase? GORGEOUS! So, read it, you'll be happy, and sad, and all of the emotions.

Oh, Joy! 60 Ways to Create and Give Joy. I actually got really annoyed and frustrated with this book. None of the ideas seemed creative or gave me joy. They all looked pretty hideous to me, sad to say, and I just was expecting better results.

The Iridescence of Birds: A Book about Henri Matisse. I LOVED this book. Yes, it's a children's book, I don't find a problem with that. The illustrations took my breath away, they were beautiful, and need I dare say a book about Henri Matisse? Nothing is wrong with this book.

The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky's Abstract Art. Again, I love children's books. The illustrations weren't quite as enjoyable, but the story was great, and I forgot that Kandinsky had synesthesia! What a cool illness, though my roommate did bring my imagination down a lot by saying those who have it, ya know ... Get headaches somewhat frequently. But still, if you could choose an illness, I'd pick synesthesia.

So there you have it, a hopefully enjoyable read for all of you, and just to remind you that I have not just stopped reading, I wouldn't do that to you, or me.

Have a good Thursday night,
Mercedes
