Here's what I think we need a whole lot of to stay happy.
- Optimism
- Hope
- Faith
- Courage
- Passion
Optimism by definition is being hopeful about the future. When we are optimistic we have the belief that things will work out. When we are feeling less than great, we are more able to give ourselves a break from what we are telling ourselves. It's hard to be unhappy when you are optimistic, the two just don't go hand in hand.
Hope is the desire for something to happen. When we aren't optimistic, we are less likely to believe that our hopes will become a reality. We don't see many of the positive outcomes. Hope is also a feeling of trust. We trust that things will work out for us.
Faith is complete trust in someone or something. It is sometimes difficult to be trusting, because hey, we're being vulnerable most of the time, in which case you just gotta have a little hope and optimism about the situation. We are more faithful when we are optimistic about the outcome.
Courage is the ability to do something that frightens us. It's also being strong in the face of grief or pain. In our lives, we have a lot of hard situations happen upon us, and hey we may not think it, but we're being strong continuously. In the little daily choices we make, we are courageous.
Passion is strong and mostly uncontrollable emotion. When we're passionate we are more willing to be vulnerable and courageous. More optimistic and faithful.
All of these five topics intertwine with one another. When you're optimistic, you're hopeful, when you're hopeful, you're faithful, etc. I know I talk a good long talk about being passionate, and here's why.
Life's been hard lately. For multiple reasons, and I felt like while I have an amazing family and group of friends, I just couldn't get everything off of my chest. There was just too much to say, and no one to say it to. Then yesterday happened and everything changed. I went to church and I strongly felt the Spirit in the room and loved every one of the speakers testimonies. Then I went to a class about relationships, not just romantic, but every other relationship you could have. We talked about how nobody's perfect, and how having a family and/or roommate council really improves your relationships rather than the opposite. Skip to lunch, it was amazing and I was so proud of myself for making a meal where the chicken didn't come out raw!! I served my roommates and some friends and it was lovely. Skip to even later in the day, where I broke down in tears over how amazing my roommates are! I really lucked out on these girls. It was when my sister was saying our roommate prayer that I started crying. I just felt overwhelmed with gratitude and comfort. I could finally feel my life moving forward and felt truly positive in a long time. I felt I could finally open up to all of my roommates of how much I've been struggling lately.
Now lets' relate it all. Have faith in yourself and the people surrounding you. Even if you feel that they aren't aware of your situation, they are and give them the benefit of the doubt. Trust in them, and they'll trust in you. Have courage in yourself, have courage that you can do anything you put your mind to. Have courage to be able to do all the little steps that lead to the big. Have courage to cry, to cry like you've never cried before. Try to be optimistic, to stay positive in your difficult situations. Hope for the best; that things will work out as they should. And above all be passionate. Be passionate in what you say and do. Be passionate about how you feel in any given circumstance. If you can do one, you will however slowly or quickly be able to do them all.
Know that I have faith in you and your endeavors
