So, it's been a little time since I last did this. But hey, here I am. Let's dig right in shall we?
BOOKS
Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. I wanted to read it because it's inspired by a famous historical painting. And while I realize it's historical fiction, I just did not enjoy it. I also didn't buy this pretend story, it just didn't make sense. So take that for what it's worth.
Vampires in the Lemon Grove: And Other Stories by Karen Russell. I love short stories, they're just so easy to read. And enjoyable. These short stories were fun and interesting and creative and I loved them.
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. THIS. BOOK. I loved it, simply loved it. I don't typically read fictional books, but this was just so good. Enough historical, enough mystery, and enough of keeping you on your toes and wondering what would happen next. I wasn't for a while, able to guess the ending, and I appreciate that and consider it good writing. Read this.
How To Be a World Explorer (Not for Parents) by Joel Levy. In all honesty, I was over at my grandparents and picked this up to look at it. It's basically a book about how to protect yourself in scary situations; whether that be in a certain weather situation, or animal, or stranded by yourself. But colorful and fun to skim.
Dear Mr. Knightly by Katherine Reay. Again, I don't read fictional books. But this caught my eye. Sure, the ending was easily guessed, but for whatever reason, I connected with the main character and really felt the emotions she was feeling. Simply put, I enjoyed this, guessable ending and all.
I Am Not a Serial Killer by Dan Wells. I wasn't expecting to read this, but I had nothing to do, and it was sitting right in front of me. Now, this was fictional, and I almost stopped reading this, because it's kinda about serial killers and psychopaths, which I don't really love reading about. But I finished it, and honestly, I wished I stopped, it was just stupid to me. It's a series and I don't plan on reading the other, what, 4? I don't see the need for this to be a series TBH.
RECIPES
Simply Perfect Chocolate Cake. Pretty tasty chocolate cake. I don't think I have anything bad to say about this. Apparently, I didn't add this link earlier for the bundt cake I made, so here it is.
Three Cheese Mac N Cheese with Garlic Panko Breadcrumbs. If I'm remembering correctly, it was a little dry, and while it should be full of flavor, I feel as if it didn't have much.
Spinach Artichoke and Brie Crepes with Sweet Honey Sauce. These had the chance to be amazing, but because I'm terrible at crepes, I didn't get to fully appreciate them as they should've been. But the filling was delicious, and I imagined myself eating them inside crepes...so sort of a win?
Sandwich De Porc Effiloché (Pulled Pork). I used this pork in a pulled pork sandwich that will be the next link. Oh man, was this amazing. I LOVED IT!
Pulled Pork and Brie Sliders. I wasn't so sure how pulled pork, brie, radishes, and arugula would work together. But boy did they become best of friends in the office. I don't know if I could ever eat pulled pork sandwiches the same again...
Marble Pound Cake. So, fun story. I made this on the grill, and it worked out. Granted, it took me about 3 hours, but at the very least it didn't heat up the house...Besides the point. It was pretty tasty, and you could either have full chocolate, vanilla, or both. So that's fun.
Best Butter Chicken. Is this the best? Is the sky blue? Yes, and yes. This was pretty dang delicious, thank you very much. Not that I can take credit for this, I can't and won't, the creator of this recipe is a beautiful person...
Spinach and Artichoke Ravioli Bake. Normally spinach and artichoke go well together for me. But this? I did not enjoy. Was it the fact that my breath smelt terrible afterward? Or just there was something else that put me off? I don't know, but I don't recommend this.
Sticky Pineapple Chicken. Boy oh boy, did I love this. I really really did, trust me. Only the highest of high praises do I have for this, angels are singing on high about this chicken. Literally.
Strawberry Peach Pie. Now, I love strawberries, and I love peaches, and I love pie. Heck, I love peach pie. But strawberries just tainted this beautiful creation of peaches and pies. So kick those stupid expensive strawberries out of the picture, and let the peach pie blossom into the beauty we all knew it could be.
Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas. Pretty good, pretty tasty. No negativity.
Grilled Vanilla French Toast. Yes, I said grilled. Now this, this is a creation I can get behind.
Harrys 11th Birthday Cake from Hagrid. Yes, I made Harry a birthday cake. Yes, it looked like I sat on it a bit, but it was made with love, and all things delicious.
Buttercream Frosting. This is the frosting I used on the Harry cake. Cause there was some expensive stuff in that other frosting. I don't have the time nor the money for that shiz.
Creamy Parmesan Herb Mushroom Chicken. I love this chicken, I love this sauce, and I love even the mushrooms. All delicious, and you should ALL make this immediately.
Famous Chocolate Cupcakes. Brought to by period cravings. Yeah, I said it. Anywho, they deflated a little bit, but other than that could fill all your rich chocolatey dreams. And quench that unquenchable thirst, ha jokes, you'll need all the milk ever.
Chicken Mozzarella Pasta with Sun-dried Tomatoes. Honestly, I think this could've been fine, even great without the chicken. But maybe that's just me.
It was good, cause I enjoy most pasta salads, but something was off about this. Maybe the fact that you're mixing both caesar salad dressing and pesto together? Yeah, not the best of choices...
Brown Sugar Oatmeal Cookie, Cookie Dough Ice Cream Sandwiches. Pretty darn delicious. Bakery worthy cookies even.
Pecan Pie Overnight Oats. I discovered two things. 1) I'm a fan of the pecan pie stuff 2) Not a fan of overnight oats, nor will I ever be. I don't even care how healthy they are for you, they're disgusting.
5 Ingredient Pumpkin Alfredo. What a lovely creation. Seriously, this is something beautiful.
Pepperoni Pizza Waffles. So easy. So cheap. So darn tasty. Childlike? Sure, but those are the best things in life.
Coconut Pecan Chocolate Chip Granola. I am officially on board with granola! I love this so so so much! And it's decently healthy for you too! Whooda thunk?
Almond Crusted Tilapia. Had I eaten this the day I made it, it could've shown me a whole new world, but alas life went against me, and well, it wasn't as beautiful or as tasty. So that's all I have to say about that.
London Fog Cake with Earl Grey Buttercream. SO. There's supposed to be coffee in the cake, I just did water, made it extra moist. You can do coffee, coffee essence, or even hot chocolate, but water also works if you COULD CARE LESS. Also, there's supposed to be loose early gray tea in the buttercream, but again I COULD CARE LESS, so I just exempted it. Delicious all the same.
GO, LIVE YOUR DREAMS
